Stuck

Purple fabric pin cushion with teal accent in a Cathedral Window layout. The center has a gold swirly button with white "pearl" center. There is a small purple and white tassel sitting next to the cushion but not attached. That’s me — I’m stuck. I have several projects in the planning stages, and I can’t work on any of them. That’s because my beautiful new (since September, 2023) Bernina 790Pro died just over a week ago. It was refusing to stitch, so I took it in for the tech to look at. That was a week ago yesterday, but they’re closed on Sundays and Mondays, so Tuesday the tech was going to call Bernina to see what they thought.  While I was showing him the problem, something gave a loud bang, and we could smell and see smoke. Oops — not good at all! Anyway, it turns out that the tech has injured his back and hasn’t been able to work all week, so the repair to my machine must, of course, wait — poor guy! Back injuries aren’t fun.

Now last spring I’d bought a smaller machine, so you’d think I’d still be able to make some progress. Wrong. One of my projects is machine embroidery, so that’s out on the Bernina 475. Another will be a group project for a ByAnnie bag, but that B475 won’t be able to quilt the very thick fabric/Soft and Stable sandwich, which is the first step in making the bag. I do still have the current quilt top I’ve been working on, but I’d like to save that for our guild’s group sewing days, as it’s pretty portable at this stage. That left me twiddling my thumbs — not really, since I do enjoy reading, too.

Luckily, though, one of my very favorite quilters, Philippa Naylor, published another video on making a cute little Cathedral Window pin cushion — all by hand! Yay! So that’s kept me sane for the past couple of days. I’d thought I’d put the tassel you see in the photo in the center of the pin cushion, but I prefer the button. And now that’s finished….
