You may (or may not!) recall this post, where I’d made a bag to take to places (like quilt shows) where I didn’t need a larger bag. I took it to the Houston Quilt Festival last month and promptly caught it on a door jam, ripping a small section. The bag was still usable, but the back didn’t look as nice as it had before.
While the tear was near a seamline, I’d have had to take the bag completely apart, replace a piece of fabric, and remake it. I really wasn’t up for that — especially considering how much binding was finishing the interior edges.
Enter my heroine! A friend looked at it and asked why I didn’t just make an embroidered patch to cover the spot. Duh … why not, indeed! The fabric was a Tula Pink design, so I looked for some of her embroidery designs and came across this adorable little bumblebee. I did a little test stitch on my Bernina 790Pro to check the size, decided to flip it to face the opposite direction, and stitched it out again on the matching fabric. I’m not good at hand appliqué, but I persevered, and the bag is no longer damaged!

That was a great fix & the bag is lovely again!
Thanks, Candice! I’m really grateful for my friend’s suggestion. 🙂
very clever…. I have used buttons or embroidery patches to cover an oopsie too. 🙂
It’s great to know I’m not alone! 🙂
