View from Above

Black, blue and grey quilt, all done in squares and rectangles.
An angled view of the same quilt to show the quilting. And it’s finished! This quilt will go to the youngest of our grandsons when he begins his pilot training. The design was originally called Metropolis II (by Heidi Pridemore), but I’ve renamed it to reflect our grandson’s interest.

Back of the same quilt to show the dense quilting.I quilted it in a design by Sue Heinz, called Road Trip, with one of her mandalas in the corners. Oh, and a few of the square-ish areas in the center are done in a sort of echoed X-shape, and I added random straight lines (ruler work) at the outer edges. I hope it gives the feeling of looking down from above at a web of roads with parkland in the corners. I think you can see it better on the back.

The quilt measures about 69″ x 68″, and it’s completely machine pieced and machine quilted, with my usual corded piping added next to the binding. Click on the images to enlarge them.
