About three weeks ago, I posted that I’d been fortunate enough to purchase an adorable Bernina 475 Kaffe edition sewing machine so that I can take it to various sewing sessions more easily than my amazing — but heavy — Bernina 790Plus. I decided that it only made sense to have a sort of “go bag” pair ready with things I’d need for these sessions so that I wouldn’t forget something essential.
Since the machine is a Kaffe edition, I decided to use a Kaffe fabric that echoes — in a smaller scale — the print on the rolling bag for the machine. The purple binding is also a Kaffe fabric, but the teal/purple striped lining is from Tula Pink.
Naturally, the bags I made were from By Annie, whose bags are so thoughtfully designed. I started with the Stash and Dash bag, which is perfect for my seam ripper, package of needles, pencil, a small ruler, etc. The three zippered mesh pockets let me organize these things and find them easily.
Then I decided to make one of the Clam Up bags, which are available in five sizes. I made the Large size, which is about 4 7/8″ high by 6.5″ wide and 4 5/8″ deep and opens with double zipper pulls. This bag will be good for cones of thread and larger scissors, etc.
On both bags, I used rainbow zippers I happened to have on hand from Pam Damour, though they’re a bit bigger than the ones recommended in the patterns. Still, I think they coordinate nicely with the Kaffe fabric.
