I’ve been making slow but steady progress on this project. I finished making all 49 clamshell shapes and did the preliminary decorative stitching. The next step was to lay them out (there are five unused clamshells, allowing for a little flexibility) and fuse them to the background, and now I’m basting them with invisible thread to the background prior to doing more decorative stitching around the tops of the shapes. It’s really been fun exploring all of the decorative stitches in my Bernina!

Do you have instructions? That looks like a fun project!!! I have a 790+ and haven’t used the decorative stitches. I love sewing but a Beginner level, even tho I’m old and had my first sewing class in 6th grade. Is it difficult? Sherry
Sherry. this is a design from Deborah Louie, called Glamorous Clams. She offers it as a cushion or a crib-sized quilt. Her booklet comes with instructions and templates for cutting the fabrics. I don’t know where you’re located, but you could probably find it with an online search; I was lucky that my local shop had it in stock and sent it to me during our shutdown; perhaps yours could order it for you. I have the same machine as you, and it’s been such fun to do this! I wouldn’t say it’s difficult, though it is time-consuming, in that it takes me forever to decide which fabrics to use where and then which decorative stitches to use on which clamshells. LOL! As for being old, join the club — this isn’t an age-specific project. 😉 Good luck!
I ordered this project some time ago but have been waffeling on color choices. Your postings has got me thinking about this again and since I do have this wonderful 790 at my disposal I suppose I should finish my stitch notebook and get to work sorting my stash. Thanks so much for the inspiration.
You’re very welcome, Peggy! I’m enjoying using my stitch book to select the stitches I’m using, and I’ll be anxious to see your version when you do it. 🙂
