I’ve been working on a quilt designed by Krista Moser. When I saw the design, I thought it would be a good gift for the wonderful young woman our #1 grandson recently married. She lost a dear family member a couple of years ago, and she feels the loss quite deeply, of course. I’d heard that some people believe that the sight of a cardinal means that it’s bringing a message from a loved one who has died, so I decided to make this. I do wish I’d made it just a tad smaller, but it’s done now and will go to her in the next couple of weeks.
I used ruler work to do minimal outline quilting in the “leaves” and free-motion curves for the white and grey pieces. The cardinal block has a spray of feathers in the background, as well as small feathers on the bird itself. I added red corded piping next to the grey binding to have an extra pop of color.

Thanks, Candice! I do hope she’ll love it — she’s a wonderful person.
What a beautiful gift. I’d never heard that about cardinals. Sweet.. great work. Happy new year to you and your family.
Thanks and Happy New Year to you and yours, too, Taria! To be honest, I’d never heard about the cardinals until recently, either. I hope she’ll like it.
