I really haven’t done much stitching during our COVID shutdown; for some reason, I just haven’t been in the mood, although I did make masks for family and a few friends. However, the fact that Mother’s Day was coming up spurred me to do something for our two lovely daughters, who are the mothers of our five wonderful grandchildren. Kreative Kiwi had a pretty design for a coaster or mug rug in a choice of sizes, so I decided to use that to make a pair in the 6″ version.
The design needs three “main” fabrics, a scrap for the leaf, and a backing fabric. Naturally, it was too late to order anything to use, but I did have a remnant of a gradated fabric in my stash. By cutting carefully, I managed to make that gradated fabric act as all three of the main fabrics — whew! The scrap of green was easy, and I had a similarly-colored print to use on the back. That back is two pieces that overlap, and I hand stitched the two edges together so they wouldn’t accidentally catch on anything and perhaps cause a little disaster.
The plan is to sneak over to our daughters’ houses and leave the mug rugs by the door as a surprise. I hope it works!
