As a quilter, I’ve been drooling over sewing machines with a larger harp space. Of course. But who can afford one of these? And besides, I love my Bernina 630 with the adorable skin showing my cocker spaniel and its lovely stitch.
Last weekend, though, something sort of fell into my lap. My LQS had some demo machines at a very attractive price, combined with Bernina’s latest no-interest loan for 48 months. Hmmm … and there was a beautiful Bernina 780 just sitting there! After coming home, doing a little research, and consulting with my husband, I went back and committed to buying the machine! It’s gorgeous! Of course, I couldn’t pick it up until today, but I was there as soon as I could be. Look at all of that space to the right of the needle!
I don’t have the proper insert for my table yet, of course, but I’ll make do until it arrives. I’ve spent this afternoon getting acquainted with the new member of my quilting family, and I think I’m going to be extremely happy. Just look at all of that light!
But what about my 630, you ask? I’m keeping it. It will become my travel machine, since it’s a lot lighter and easier to transport than this 780. Besides, now it will always be ready to go, since it will need to spend most of its time in its travel bag; I just don’t have space in my little sewing room for more than one machine to be set up at a time.
But if you know anyone who wants to buy a BSR or an embroidery module with Tutto travel bag, let me know; the ones for my 630 will be for sale, since I don’t need two of either! 🙂 They’ll work on many different Bernina models in addition to the 630.

Lucky you! The machine looks wonderful!
Thanks, Lori! I’m having a lot of fun exploring some of its capabilities. 🙂
I have a 640. Would the BSR fit my machine. If so how much would you want for it. I am also looking for software. I only have the version 1 from Bernina. Doesn’t do much.

Congratulations on your new Bernina 780, I am sure you will love it.
I had the Bernina 730 and traded it in for the 750QE, I bought mine for the same reason as you did.
Looking back maybe should of kept my 730 for classes when I do, haven’t in a long time. Maybe down the line get a 215 for classes. Anyways my son is getting married next month so there gift is a Queen Size Quilt. This will be so much better quilting this on my new 750 can’t get used to the bigness of this machine.
Never thought I do this than Bernina had this sale, so went ahead and did this.
Nice all the feet you have can use on these machine’s. Prices went up these presser feet bought the straight stitch plate. Next will finish my younger son’s quilt his is in earth tones which is so pretty. I’ve been wanting a bigger machine with more space. Your 780 looks great… You do wonderful work, Thank You for letting me join. Donna
Thanks for your comment, Donna, and I hope you enjoy your new machine as much as I’m enjoying mine! I agree that the feet are pricey, but they’re *so* great at doing what we need. I figure that I’ll just get one at a time of those that I need/want, as paydays come around. 😉 And, of course, the feet for my 630 still fit the 780; they just don’t have the even feed capability that the new feet have.
Yes having fun with this new machine love the lighting on the machine, duel feed is great.
Enjoy your’s.
Happy Quilting.
