One of the most difficult things about quilting on a domestic machine is managing the bulk and weight of the quilt. For some time now, I’ve been looking at a couple of tools that claim to help hold the weight to make quilting easier and less tiring. One of those tools requires floor space, which I don’t have; I have a smallish room that becomes really cramped when I extend the back leaf of my cabinet and which doesn’t allow for anything extra on the floor. The other, however, clamps to the cabinet itself, which is a much better option for me.
I finally bit the bullet and ordered this second option (which has been around for longer than the other one, actually) from Patsy Thompson Designs. I LOVE it! I’ll still probably never try to quilt anything larger than a large lap-sized quilt, as I have back issues, but this makes life so much nicer!
The ordering process was simplicity itself. In fact, Patsy offered me the option for less-expensive shipping if I wasn’t in a rush. I ordered the purple version to go along with the purple skin on my Bernina 790+, but it’s also available in blue. Oh, and disregard the black item in the background that looks like it might be part of the setup; it’s a lamp! LOL!

Very handy. Thank you for posting this. I was considering this purchase as well. You convinced me. Bernina bisous pour toi. Carmen
I hope you enjoy yours as much as I am enjoying mine, Carmen! Encore de Bernina bisous pour too. 🙂
Vive les (Bernina) bisons!
J’ai oublié de te dire que tes quilts sont superbes.
Tu es trop gentille, Carmen! 🙂 Merci mille fois!
Thank you Sandy for showing us your beautiful quilt and for the info of the new gadget. I went on line
and saw how it works, it is amazing what you can do. Sometime ago, I talked on the phone to Patsy for an
item I wanted to purchase from her website, she was very nice and very accommodating. I am thinking about
it.
Good luck, Diana — I really like mine! 🙂
This frame looks great but sadly would cost me a fortune to post to Australia. I would like to know where you got your skin for your Bernina? Thankyou
Thanks, Venora! I wonder whether you could rig up a similar frame somehow? At any rate, I wrote about the skin for my Bernina here. It came from an Etsy shop, and I’m very pleased with it. There was even a video to show how to put the skin onto the machine! 🙂
Venora, you can make your own using ‘dog grooming bars’ only the vertical bars to clamp on the table and extra bungee cors with attaching clamps (I do not know how to say this in correct English). Stuff like this

You can find more info on internet if you search, because other quiltsters did it. Good luck from the Netherlands
What a great idea, Carmen! Thanks for sharing that. 🙂
