Let me get this out of the way from the start: I love my Bernina 790+ sewing machine. I often say that someone would have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands. However, it does have one disadvantage: it’s really heavy! In the past, I’ve opted not to participate in several sewing days with my local group, just because of that weight. Since spraining my back just before Christmas, and considering the herniated disk I’ve had for years, the problem has been magnified; I have to be very careful of what I lift.
Yes, I could have borrowed the Featherweight I gave our granddaughter, but sometimes a quilter needs something more than a straight stitch.
This month, though, Bernina has been having a special on some of their machines, and my husband thought it would be a great idea for me to get a smaller machine of my own. Enter the adorable Bernina 475QE, which is temporarily available in a Kaffe Fassett special edition, sporting a lovely teal color (instead of the traditional Bernina white) and decorated with whimsical flowers. It also came with a rolling case, also decorated with those flowers. Pretty! 🙂
I’ve already tried it out a bit. Now I can hardly wait to be able to take it for a sewing day!

That is a wonderful looking fun machine. Yes, the getting together and sewing with folks is a good thing. I learned I don’t get along with computer machines so I have collected 4 vintage mechanical Bernina machines. The 801 is my favorite to take to sew with friends. There are Featherweights here but it is nice to have the zig zag capability. Your machine is going to ‘wow’ your sewing friends. I know you’ll do great things with it.
Thanks, Taria! 🙂 It’s really a cute little (comparatively!) machine, and I foresee lots of outings with it. 🙂
