Several weeks ago, I posted a bit of progress on my current quilt project. I’d love to say that getting ready for the Christmas season is the reason I haven’t gotten any further, but that wouldn’t be true. At least, it would only be partially true. 😉 What actually happened was that I stitched all of the blocks together and was ready to add corners to square it up when I noticed that some of the seams were shredding! Ack! I tried taking the affected blocks out and fixing things, but the more I removed, the more adjacent blocks were messed up.
I took a deep breath and assessed my options. I could trash the whole thing and think of another project, or I could remake the entire thing; fixing the original one just wasn’t going to be feasible. Obviously, since you can see the photo with this post, you can guess which option I decided upon. The new blocks are now put together, and the corners have been added. I suspect it will take me until after Christmas to get busy with the quilting, but that’s fine; I’m very glad I did remake it!

What do you think was causing the shredding? d
I suspect it was a combination of slightly loose weave in the fabric and tiny pieces with equally tiny seam allowances, Denise. With blocks this small, I used 1/8″ seam allowances in the paper piecing, and I think this particular fabric just couldn’t handle it without special care.
What did you do differently the second time? I just love this piece. The colors. The design. All of it. So excited to see how you quilt it. d
LOL! I was just a *lot* more careful and gentle! And thanks for your lovely comment! 🙂 I’m still waiting to see how I quilt it, too. 😉
