When my husband and I were newlyweds, decorating our first Christmas tree was a problem, since we didn’t have any ornaments. When our daughters came along, I began buying them an ornament each year so that they’d have a collection when the time came for them to have their own places. Then the grandchildren started coming, and I adapted my “habit” to giving them an ornament each year. Sometimes I buy them locally; sometimes I buy souvenirs from a trip; and sometimes I make the ornaments. This year I found an embroidered nativity scene (Embroidery Library) that I wanted to make, and I’ve just finished making the five I’ll need for this year. Each one took about three hours of machine embroidery and then another couple of hours of hand stitching to put the pieces together, but I think they turned out pretty well and hope our grandchildren will like them.

I too have a grand daughter 3 yr. and have been giving her store bought ornaments each year. Would love to add some homemade ones to her growing collection. Thank you.
Have fun! Our grandchildren are growing up really quickly now (20, 18, 18, 15, 12), and they always know which package has their new ornament in it. LOL!
WOW, Sandy — those are so cool! There’s a freestanding lace embroidery design pack out there for making Chrismon ornaments that I’ve wanted to try, but just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Maybe this year!
Oh, do, Rebecca Grace! While commercial ornaments are lovely, the handmade ones are extra-special, I think. 🙂
