This time, my latest Christmas quilt is almost finished! I’ve completed the quilting, applied the piping and binding, made and attached a label and hanging sleeve. So what’s left? I’m seriously considering adding some crystals for some extra sparkle, which is something I’ve never done before. That step will have to wait, though, until I’ve learned how to do it and what tools I’ll need. Fortunately, that is precisely the lesson that’s scheduled for the next meeting of the group I attend! Isn’t that a lucky coincidence?
In the meantime, I realize that it’s really difficult to see the quilting I did on the black background fabric, but remember that each of the photos can be enlarged by clicking on them; I hope they’ll get big enough to actually see something. I used a variety of freemotion background fillers in each block, some twice and some just once. My Bernina 780 with its great lighting and large harp space really made this go smoothly! Below are the rows of trees:
Row 1 (left to right): gentle swirls, uneven curved crosshatching, and spirals.
Row 2: teardrops, echoed circles, leaf-like shapes
Row 3: spirals, gentle swirls, pebbles
Row 4: checkerboard, teardrops, echoed circles. In this last row, too, you may be able to see a bit of how I did the borders with a combinations of circle-filled swags and straight lines.

Your quilting is awesome. Photographing black on black is almost impossible, but it did show up well when I looked at the enlarged view! It certainly is beautiful as it is, but a bit of “bling” will make it even better!
Awww … thanks, Susan! 🙂
Awesome. Love the sashing fabric and “What girl doesn’t like bling?” Go for it Sandy
Thanks, Suzanne!
Sandy, I am totally smitten with your trees! You’ve done an amazing job working with metallics. I so want to try this. I have a 7 month old Bernina 790E that I am have having a ball learning how to embroidery with. It seems like you used a black on black fabric…is that right. And you mentioned an almost black quilting thread. Is it like a dark grey? I would gladly pay for a class! I’m serious! Your skills are amazing.
Susan
Oh my, Susan! You’re so sweet! Thanks for your very kind words. The fabric is a black (not black on black) Kaufman Radiance, and the thread is Aurifil, so dark grey that it’s *almost* black.
Thank you for sharing so generously. This will be a much anticipated challenge for me to use metallic thread for the first time. I already have the adapter so that should help. Love your blog:)
Thanks again, and best of luck!
Awesome loved it
