I’ve been quiet lately, but it’s because I’ve been away and also dealing with the aftermath of some renovations at home. The “away” part was a wonderful Viking River Cruise on the Danube! My husband and I opted for an extra couple of days at the beginning of the cruise so we could see more of Budapest, where we were to begin. The hotel where we stayed was amazingly beautiful, as you can see by this postcard I reproduced.
The lobby was just as gorgeous, and our room was very comfortable. 🙂 Unfortunately for us, our stay in Budapest was a wet one, as it poured with rain the whole time. However, we had umbrellas, so we braved the rain and did our planned sightseeing, visiting a museum that explains the terrible times in Hungary during World War II and the subsequent Russian occupation.
We also took a walking tour of part of the Pest side of the city, including the breathtaking St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
The tour ended after about four hours in a bookstore, above which was the Book Café that serves scrumptious pastries and coffees. My husband had a delicious slice of Dobos torte, while I had an equally scrumptious slice of Esterhazy torte. Yum!
The first evening that we were in Budapest, we found a nice café for dinner and liked it so much that we went back for the second evening. This time, we ordered goulash!
I’ll add more about the trip in my next post.
