Finally!

I’ve had four of my five grandchildren over to work on quilty projects at one time or another, but the youngest boy somehow never made it. There were several reasons, but they’re not important now, since he and I finally found a mutually agreeable time this past Sunday! Yay! Most of the others had made little placemats, though our only granddaughter made a doll quilt instead, followed by a little throw pillow.

Since Aidan is now a bit older than any of the others had been, we decided that a placemat might not be as fun as something more in keeping with his age and that he could use in his brand-new bedroom. He chose navy and orange as the colors for that room, so of course a throw pillow for his very cool window seat seemed like a good idea. Naturally, the pillow also had to be orange and navy!

I decided to add an extra little touch, since he’d waited so long, so I made small blocks embroidered with the letters of his name to set into the front of the pillow. Gosh, he did such a good job! He listened carefully and did everything I suggested, working hard all morning and most of the afternoon and using my Bernina 630 with a finger guard for extra “confidence”. He very accurately pieced the little top together, then quilted it to its batting, finally stitching the whole thing to the envelope back. The pillow looks great in his window seat, and I hope he’ll enjoy using it!
