Many of you may have heard that this summer there was a row-by-row challenge across the US. The idea was to visit as many quilt shops as possible, pick up the row pattern they had available, and make the rows into a quilt. I didn’t visit any quilt shops, with the exception of “my” Bernina dealer and one other in town, called Christmas Goose. I hardly ever get there these days, but I saw the picture of their row and had to have it! LOL!
This little quilt was so cute, and I thought it would look great over the closet in my sewing room. It also reminds me of my late mother-in-law, who gifted me her featherweight some years ago. It looks a bit crooked in the above photo, but that’s because I took the picture while the quilt was resting against the back of our living room couch — not the best plan, but all I could do at the time. 😉
My quilting buddy, Phyl, tweaked the birds a bit, and I copied her idea. I pre-quilted the background fabric (don’t look too closely at the little puckers I ended up with!) and then machine appliquéd the pieces with a blanket stitch. I used built-in embroidery stitches for details like the birds’ beaks and eyes, the star on the flag, the leaves and stem on the flower, and the ornaments on the tree. Here are details of each “season”:

Looks great. Love the Featherweight medallion.
Oops! I forgot to mention that the medallion was your suggestion, too! 🙂

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, Nancy! It’s the Christmas Goose link in my post. 🙂
Those are really cute, what a creative idea for a featherweight row.
I thought so, too, Carole! Just *had* to have it!
What an adorable Row!!!! I wouldn’t have been able to pass it up either!
Thanks, Marsha! 🙂
