Since that time, I’ve finished that top, as well as a second one. Unfortunately, I don’t particularly like the results, so I doubt that I’ll actually finish them. Here’s the first one, begun in class. I think the colors might have turned out better if I’d planned all four of the sections at once, rather than one at a time. However, time constraints inherent in a class prevented that, understandably.

The second block was a pre-planned one from MJ Kinman’s designs. I’m really not thrilled with this one, either. The problem here is the size. The “stone” would have looked much more realistic with smaller pieces so that they gleamed as a real stone would as it catches the light. However, to get the pieces small enough in a piece this size would have been really difficult, since each of these blocks is only 18″!

Oh well. Live and learn, as “they” say. These pieces were fun to make, and I did learn a lot from the class. I always maintain that there’s something to learn from every class, whether it’s something I like or something that isn’t so wonderful.

On another topic, I took a few hours yesterday to make a little notebook cover. I had to take the measurements from a cover that I already had, since I didn’t have a pattern, but that worked out fine. I thought that the red floral motif that I embroidered on my Bernina 790+ turned out really well, and it looks very dramatic on the black background. I lined the cover in red, too. If you click on the photo to enlarge it, you may see a hint of that lining peeping out.

About a week ago, I posted the first part of a little quilt I’d begun in a class.
