I had such a good time quilting this one, especially since I wasn&#8217;t constantly fighting the weight as I moved it around under my Bernina, thanks to my new suspension system. The background fabric is a white-on-white fabric with happily flitting dragonflies, which is where I got the name for the quilt. I thought the colorful blocks gave the dragonflies a sort of garden to play in. See the fingers and toes of my &#8220;quilt rack&#8221; here? \ud83d\ude09 Just click on the photos to enlarge them.<\/p>\n<p>The quilt is made of curvy snail&#8217;s trail blocks with sashing and inner borders of diamonds in rectangles and square-in-a-square blocks. The outer border is more of the dragonfly fabric, followed by multicolored corded piping and the white binding.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sandymike.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/IMG_0021-1.jpeg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4563\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sandymike.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/IMG_0021-1.jpeg?resize=300%2C225&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"close-up of quilting\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sandymike.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/IMG_0021-1.jpeg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sandymike.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/IMG_0021-1.jpeg?w=640&amp;ssl=1 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I quilted free-motion swirly motifs and feathers (just because I love feathers &lt;g&gt;) to mimic the dragonflies playing, and I used free-motion ruler work in the outer border to give the &#8220;garden&#8221; a fence. Can you see how the sashing creates a star where it comes together? Look just left of lower center.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sandymike.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/IMG_0024.jpeg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4564\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sandymike.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/IMG_0024.jpeg?resize=281%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"label for quilt\" width=\"281\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sandymike.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/IMG_0024.jpeg?resize=281%2C300&amp;ssl=1 281w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sandymike.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/IMG_0024.jpeg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 281px) 100vw, 281px\" \/><\/a>The backing fabric is mainly white, but it&#8217;s covered in tiny speckles of all of the colors used in the quilt &#8212; a lucky find!
