I’ve relatively recently connected with some first cousins I didn’t know, and it’s been a wonderful experience! They’re all so fun and warm that it’s tragic that we’ve missed so much time together. However, we now have the future, so things could be worse. \ud83d\ude42 The mother of three of them was my father’s younger sister, and she was a quilter. When she died, she left a stash (how unusual, right? LOL!) and some unfinished projects. Among the projects was a set of hand pieced Grandmother’s Fan blocks, one of which was hand quilted (see photo at right). They were obviously going to be done in a quilt-as-you-go style.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>I took a couple of the blocks home with me after a recent visit with my cousins in San Antonio and copied the quilting motif onto these blocks as a memento for each of her three adult children. Unfortunately, I don’t hand quilt any longer, given problems with my thumbs, so I had to do the quilting by machine, but at least these blocks are quilted now. I was lucky in finding some dark brown solid fabric to bind the blocks, too, though I completely forgot to take a picture once I’d finished — I was in a hurry to send them off to my cousins.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
