Each measures approximately 21″ x 27″ — not large, by any stretch of the imagination. However, I’ve just finished another version that is even smaller: 12.5″ x 16″. All of the designs for both sizes came from San Francisco Stitch Company, and we’ll be keeping this quilt. I tried a new-to-me technique on this one: beaded piping. I love adding piping to my quilts, but this is the first time I’ve tried beading it, following instructions devised by Bethann Nemesh. She has other beautiful variations on piping, and I hope to try those out at some point, too. For this one, the string of beads is inserted into the piping strips, and then definition is added by hand stitching between each pair of beads. It’s a bit more complicated than that, of course, but that’s the basic idea.

My last post showed a pair of small quilts that will be gifts.
