Anyway, it was looking rather ratty by now, so I used up some scraps from recent projects to make a new one. I didn’t want to make the same one again, so I looked for inspiration online and put together ideas from several different sources. The pin cushion is a hexagon that I drafted with a compass (thank you, internet for those instructions!) and embroidered with a motif that came with my Bernina, finally stuffing it with crushed walnut shells.

The bag itself is a mishmash of ideas I saw online, and I added the little pocket on the outside to keep some of my smaller tools handy: seam ripper, tweezers, etc. I think I did almost as much unsewing as sewing, since I was adapting so much! The pincushion is attached to the bag with hook and loop tape; it makes emptying the bag much easier if the pincushion isn’t getting in the way. The final touch was to use hot glue to attach some non-skid shelf liner to the bottom so the bag won’t slip to the floor.

I like to keep a pincushion with an attached bag next to my sewing machine so as not to end up with a zillion threads all over the floor for my dog to eat. 😉 I’ve had my last one for several years — I honestly can’t remember when I made that one!
