Many of you may have heard that this summer there was a row-by-row challenge across the US. The idea was to visit as many quilt shops as possible, pick up the row pattern they had available, and make the rows into a quilt. I\u00a0didn’t visit any quilt shops, with the exception of “my” Bernina dealer<\/a>\u00a0and one other in town, called Christmas Goose<\/a>. I hardly ever get there these days, but I saw the picture of their row and had<\/strong> to have it! LOL!<\/p>\n

This little quilt was so cute, and I thought it would look great over the closet in my sewing room. It also reminds me of my late mother-in-law, who gifted me her featherweight some years ago. It looks a bit crooked in the above photo, but that’s because I took the picture while the quilt was resting against the back of our living room couch\u00a0\u2014\u00a0not the best plan, but all I could do at the time. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

My quilting buddy, Phyl<\/a>, tweaked the birds a bit, and I copied her idea. I pre-quilted\u00a0the background fabric (don’t look too closely at the little puckers I ended up with!) and then machine appliqu\u00e9d the pieces with a blanket stitch. I used built-in embroidery stitches for details like the birds’ beaks and eyes, the star on the flag, the leaves and stem on the flower, and the ornaments on the tree.
