Who said the weather in the Las Vegas area is\u00a0always the same? A few large raindrops fell on me as I was coming home yesterday afternoon. Once home, it began *pouring* \u2014 we ended up with over 1\/2\u201d dumped on us over the course of the late afternoon! We desperately need that rain and a lot more, but a steady, gentle rain would do more good, naturally. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

My husband\u00a0had some trouble getting home from his afternoon activities, and our eldest grandson (age 16) called to say he couldn\u2019t get home from the gym where he’d been working out, so could he come to our\u00a0house? The road to his house, even though practically around the corner from us, was awash and impassable; all roads leading to it were closed by the police and highway patrol. That road to his house even made our local news, along with others.<\/p>\n

\"IMG_0785\"<\/a>When the rain finally stopped, we discovered that our grandson\u00a0had a flat tire; he\u2019d picked up a screw somewhere. Our very kind neighbor has a compressor and patched the tire with my husband’s\u00a0help while I held umbrellas over them as the rain began again and our cocker spaniel\u00a0cowered in the door to the garage; she’s afraid of thunder and loud noises. It\u2019s really too bad I didn\u2019t video the whole thing, as it was pretty comical. <g> Still, here is a photo of our neighbor, my husband, and our grandson (he took over umbrella duty for a time) as they worked on the car.<\/div>\n

Sadly, over 11,000 people were without power during the storm, with some still without this morning. We were lucky there, though, and never lost ours. It’s especially dangerous to be without air conditioning in our hot weather; but even worse is the fact that some people’s homes were damaged by fire from lightning; others were damaged by the high winds.<\/div>\n

More rain is predicted for this afternoon, and the humidity right now is over 60% in our normally very dry area \u2014 amazing!<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
