It starts out as two squares of fabric, but it ends up having eight sides! The more traditional ones have counted cross stitch as the squares, but they can really be made of almost anything. I had some charm squares left over from a previous project, so I chose two of those to use. I then dug out my circular embroidery attachment for my Bernina and did a circular motif on each square to sort of “jazz them up” before beginning the stitching. Once the construction was finished — and that didn’t take long — all I had to do was stuff it with crushed walnut shells (they’re available in the bird section of the pet shop, and they really work well in pin cushions), close up the opening and attach a button to the top and bottom.
